Complicated friendship with my long distance friend

So I became friends with this really cool guy who was a foreign exchange student, we’re both university students and were in the same class. We only knew each other in person for about two weeks before he left but I considered him to be one of my best friends and the day before he left we kissed. Our friendship was great, we’d text often and our in person conversations and hang outs were out of this world. I knew I liked him for a little bit but didn’t say anything until after he left. He was extremely nonchalant in his response to me telling him, which I expected. I’m studying abroad in a county near him in the fall and we plan on meeting up once I’m there. I still really like him but I don’t want to get too attached to him because while we plan on seeing each other, I’m not sure it’ll happen. I downloaded tinder and am using passport mode and he asked about it. I told him about it and how there’s this one cute guy that I’m kind of interested in who lives near my study abroad destination and who happened to be in my area in a few weeks. My friend basically said he was sad and kind of jealous that I’m talking to other people and that he hopes I don’t replace him however he never said he liked me back. I guess I’m asking what do I do in this situation and how do I move forward?
