Kitchenaid DIshwasher F9 E1 error due to oversudsing?

So I have a 3 year old expensive kitchenaid kdtm604kps0 that has been dealing with the F9 E1 code for the past year or so occasionally (drainage issue). https://www.kitchenaid.com/owners-center-pdp.KDTM604KPS.html

Everytime the error occurs, I open the dishwasher and theres suds at the bottom (which i assume is triggering some error since its not draining). I thought detergent pods dont cause suds? I even turned off rinse aid and suds are still appearing. Anyways, after the error, I put a rinse or drain cycle and it drains no problem, which makes me think the pump is fine. I have very soft water if that matters.

Manual only says to check drain hose which i have at both ends. Filter is always clear (we are diligent on scraping/rinsing food off). Disposal is clear. The frequency has increased to every 1 of 3 or 1 of 2 loads. We currently use detergent pods (not an issue before the first 2 years or so). The frequency of error occurs 100% when i put a dishwasher cleaner tablet in to wash the dishwasher (tons of suds).

Other than trying to switch to powder detergent, is there anymore theories what is causing this issue? This is driving me nuts and I'd like to try anything before forking over $$$ for a tech to come say I need a new washer.
