Selke Award Announced, Barkov shouldn't have even been Finalist & it's b&w!
▪︎This years Selke Award was determined by 197 voter ballots. Consisting of 177 Professional Hockey Writer's Association (PHWA) members and 19 invited international broadcasters.
Selke Award Qualifications:
NHL Forward who best excels at the defense aspects of the game.
-Toughest Matchups: Determined by Most DEF-Zone Time, followed by NTL-Zone Time.
-Penalty Killing Record: Determined by Most Short Handed Ice-Time considering the Rank of Teams PK%.
-Overall Defensive Impact for their Team: Determinded by Most FO's, FOW%, TA's, and Untangibles like solid board play or not making positional errors, & this is when +/- would be considered a little.
Congrats to the winner, Alexander Barkov and other finalist Anthony Cirelli + Sam Reinhart.
-I believe the Selke winner Barkov is a great defensive forward. Sadly, I just believe in stats more, which show he was utilized mostly as an Offensive Center. Maybe the Panther's going to the Cup 3 years straight allowing 3 years of Panther Player Interviews about how good of a Defensive Fwd. Barky is & how the NHL "still" does not full give him his flowers pressured some voters.
As for Reinhart, I don't want to come off like I'm attacking the NHL or the PHWA, but you are UTTERLY INSANE to believe Sam Reinhart should have been a finalist! He doesn't come even CLOSE to ranking Top 40 in more than 1 qualifying catergory. The best he has going for him is his +/- 30, yet that is a Team Stat on the defending Cup Champion Team who is now in the Cup as the favorite to win...
Nico Hischier 100% without question should have won & he wasn't even a finalist.
Ryan McLeod should have been the other finalist.
Replacing Sam Reinhart & Alexander Barkov with Nico Hischier & Ryan McLeod for Selke🏆

I just bout covered all categories & Cirelli should have been on there Reinhart literally wasnt in ANY qualifying category & clearly proves how much dick the voters are swallowing based on Florida going to the 🏆 the last 3yrs. getting mad interviews all repeating how the league doesnt realize how good Barkov is defensively so they bitch made got pressured to give him a Selke. That'd be my article of the day.
