Band director turned into a couples therapist?
The band director calls both me and my ex into his office today as my ex came up to him and complained that I was sitting too close to her (we are both trumpets, she is the section leader). I'm assuming he got fed up with the two of us because we've been really tense with each other. In his office, we've said our points and agreed that I will sit more out.
The director asked us for any more problems we would like to discuss; I brought up the fact on how I didn't think she was fit as leader. My ex argued and claimed that she wasn't doing anything because she couldn't hear the rest of the section (4 trumpets including me and her). I argued back that she in the start of the year put me as the music section leader, as I quote "Because I cannot read music". I also mentioned whenever the director was working with other sections, instead of helping out our section she would be on her phone the entire time. When I saw this happening and tried helping out the section, she would yell at me whenever it happened. The director was neutral in this so he didn't really respond with anything other than swapping my seat and my ex's seat so she could hear better.
My ex then wanted to talk about me and my behavior during marching band season. For context I was an absolute asshole during this season. I came back from DCI (Drum Corpse International) which was basically professional marching band. I agreed with the fact that I was an asshole during this time, but I replied back saying how all the people I was mean to, I've privately apologized and talked it out. My ex decided to respond back with how I didn't apologize to anybody. Which I've replied back with I have apologized to the people individually there's not much I can do as it was the past, and they can speak to me privately if they still have any problems with me.
The final thing we talked about during this was when I talked to the band director about auditioning for solos (My ex took every single solo for herself). My ex after she found out I asked for auditions with the band director responded back by privately messaging me insults and saying how I was "stealing her solo" and how "I'm targeting the solos she's messed up on". I've responded back by saying how the solos I was trying out for were the easy ones, and how I didn't try for the harder main solo because I wanted to ease in. The band director agreed with how I was going for something more realistic than something hard. His response was to tell my ex to give me more respect as a person.
All in all, there wasn't anything much to come out of this discussion. It kinda just felt like bad relationship counselling. I don't know how to feel individually as I didn't get in trouble, but my ex also didn't get consequences either.
