Are PEG tubes uncommon?

I didn’t think this would be an issue, but my PEG tube needs to be replaced and nobody knows what it is or how to replace it. My GI who originally placed it is not available and not answering the phone, nor is the office allowing me to speak with anyone there. I’ve been going to various hospitals and having to explain to them what a PEG is because they’re only familiar with the balloon type. I’ve had my tube for a couple years but it’s become very apparent that I should had it replaced in 12 months since it’s very obviously degraded, but my GI claimed that PEGs last up to a decade so I wouldn’t need to get it replaced and wouldn’t schedule a regular replacement, he’d only replace it when it was totally unusable. I’ve been in the ER for the past day and overnight just to have the potential to talk to their GI and see if he knows how to replace it. But I’ve had no consult and the GI won’t speak to me here either. I thought PEGs were common since they were put in first but literally nobody even knows what the word is. Is this the norm or is this a case of everyone just sucking. (Also any tips on how to deal with this would be great I am losing my mind)
