27f. Had one of the healthiest dates in a while, but struggling due to (long) distance
This weekend, I had one of the healthiest, most aligned connections I’ve experienced while traveling on the opposite side of the country. But I’m still sitting with some sadness around timing and distance.
While traveling, I matched with someone on a dating app. Right from the start, his energy was different, very intentional, grounded, and respectful. He sent me a Rose (on Hinge), led the conversation easily, and actually made the process feel fun, not exhausting.
Early on, he openly shared details about his life, mentioning things like already owning property, planning to sell it for a future home, maxing his retirement accounts, and generally being in a stable place financially. He wasn’t flexing, it came off very matter-of-fact, like a man who’s thinking about building a future. This aligned with what I’m looking for (serious, long-term, intentional dating).
I let him know upfront that I’m looking for something serious long-term, and he replied very respectfully: “Sorry but I’m looking for something serious and long term, so I’m not looking to go out with someone just for a night even though I really like what I see from your profile.”
He also joked early on: “Will one night spark a long-distance relationship?” which felt like his way of gently acknowledging both his interest and the logistical reality.
We ended up meeting for a date while I was in town, and honestly? The vibe was amazing. He was a gentleman, flirty but respectful, and made me feel incredibly safe. He adjusted his plans with his friends to meet me, texted me his location, sent his pin so I wouldn’t get lost, waited outside to meet me, and walked me back safely after our date. He even followed up that night with a simple, kind: “Made it home, had a great time tonight.”
Since then, we’ve lightly texted but haven’t really addressed the distance factor head-on. We live far apart, and while I understand that’s a real obstacle, part of me keeps wondering if I should gently express that I’d be open to seeing where things might go if he were open to that.
I don’t want to pressure him or chase, I fully believe that if someone really wants to lead, they will. But I also don’t want to leave things unsaid if there’s even a tiny chance that my openness might matter.
Has anyone been in a situation like this? Would love to hear how others navigated this, or if it’s better to just cherish it as a beautiful connection that served its purpose.
