I crashed yesterday and have concerns.
I was cycling down hill, it was a bendy road that has some narrow bits. I had my glasses on, and a bit of the descent was shaded by trees. Theres were a load of massive stones that had rolled of the bank into the road, all across the road, I couldn't see them due to the colour, shade, and glasses. I went over them, probs about 50kmph, both tires popped instantly, my bike made some massing crunching noises, I buckled my front wheel and my chain fell off.
If you've ever got a flat front wheel while descending, you'll know is very hard to keep control. The road was narrowing and about to bend, a car was coming right at me so I descended to throw me and my bike into the side of the road and try land as spread out as possible into the foliage. All things considered, it was a pretty good save. I didn't I jure myself or damage my bike any more than the it was already from the stones. The bike rim was trued and got new tubes all for £30, so I think I'm pretty lucky this time.
My concern now is, how am I supposed to be safe descending at speed? I enjoy racing my self, I push my self hard and try to do my "race rides" in as good a time as I can. When I crashed, I was so close to hitting that car at 50kmph, I could have died. Should I just accept that the way I ride is just dangerous, and if I want to do it, I have to be prepared for a serious crash one day? Or is there anything I can do to be safer without sacrificing tge pushing my self as hard as I can aspect?
I am actually so worried about hitting rocks in the road again that I just can't see because of the lighting and the shade. It's also made me think about other things, like what if I hit an oil patch and slip out on a fast corner? Idk... Maybe I'm over thinking things at this point.
