After more than 3 years, I’ll be “working” again

I have been out of the job market for more than 3 years.

I was earning more than 6 figures in my previous role with a great title and worked from home — but I was sooooo exhausted.

And then I left everything behind. I fortunately have other skills I can use so I began focusing on this freelance raket that pays well. It also meant I could travel anywhere I want for an extended period. Sa more than 3 years na yun, naka-10 overseas ata ako including ilang several weeks sa Europe.

In my head, I was ticking off a lot of bucket list things na feeling ko hindi ko na magagawa nang maayos when I retire mga 20 years or so from now, tapos uugod ugod na ako.

But when I finally decided na mag-work na ako ulit with a team, nahirapan din ako maghanap. For more than half a year din dahil ang tindi ng competition. Mahirap din maghanap ng fully remote na role sa development sector, then may ideal minimum salary requirement pa ako, and sana supervisory level.

Honestly hindi na ako choosy the last few weeks, and wala na ako pake if hindi ma-meet lahat ng requirements na yun.

Fortunately after holding out for months, I landed a job in the same sector na kahit mababa nang konti than last time, na-meet lahat ng kailangan ko. I was honest with them why I left the sector more than 3 years ago. It was a miracle na makabalik at this level, dahil ready na talaga ako magstart ulit from square one given how fierce the job market is.

I never thought makakabalik ako sa development sector ulit.

For now sulitin ko muna ang unli streaming, pambahay, at 10am na gising.
