A Letter to Z

Letter to Z

Though distant I recall, Our earliest days, The lifelong summers, And our hands shaped small.

For a time we knew peace, Our home the kingdom, The basement our keep.

I trusted myself with you, To guide your young mind: Instead I've fallen short, My soul lost and blind.

Now that we're older, You need me no more, Seeking no shoulder, Our hearts still broken, In love: still poor.

I was turned from you, Thrashing and scathing, The separation between, Long left contemplating.

So young yet- So old. Your frame of mind, A deep tarnished gold.

Forgive me my friend, My oldest companion, I hate myself for what I've done, And blame others: For what I've become.

I promise to be there, For days til no end, My original promise, Reforged, without bend.

Compunction my burden, My shoulders long weary, I've thought this over, Til eyes grown teary.

Free of the ‘Dale, Released from that jail, To see you fly far, To know you won't fail.

I'm proud of you brother, Amazed at your grace, To save yourself fully, From Mother’s embrace.

Love ya bud, -E
