Where can I get more varied experience?

Hello fellow sparks.

I am currently working as an improver and working through my NVQ. I work for a small business who are very old school and only do contract work for a water company - mainly pumps and chemical dosing. It’s all industrial stuff.

I find the work quite boring as it is not at all varied. Also, I feel I am not learning a whole lot because, as mentioned - all the work is mostly the same, just in a different place. Whilst the work yard is close to home, travel is paid etc etc - my concern is that I will get through my NVQ, AM2 etc and get my Gold card but have next to no experience in the many other areas of electrical installation and the industry in which I work is quite niche.

How can I go about finding something more varied - any companies which cover a wider range of works. Would you think that staying where I am will be detrimental in my ability to find other jobs in the future?

Any advice on how to go about becoming a good. Well rounded electrician would be much appreciated.

Cheers!
