AITAH for not trusting my bestfriend anymore?
Hi,
So we have been friends with this girl a life long. We met at pre school and since then we've been best friends. The bestest. We come from two really different family environments. I come from a family with an absent father and a really permissive mother. Me and two more siblings, a family of five. We do love each other yet we don't get along as most of the families, we only see each other to celebrate birthdays (and I do celebrete it) but it can pass months until I get a call from my mother/sister. I've been out of my hometown for almost a year now and my father and brother have not called me once yet.
In the other hand, she has a lot of cousins, uncles and aunts. Annually they gather in a family house they have and celebrate anything, like 50 people. Her parents still hold hands kiss each other.
Yes, I have admit I am kind of envious here, of course. I would have wished for a loving and caring family too.
Nowadays, I am having some crisis in my work / house ambits. I have to move again and I have little savings because I've tried to live by myself since 19 y.o.. As i'm learing the highs and the lows in life, I'm seeing now the prices of the rents are so high and they demand high amounts of deposits and almost 3 months in advance to rent a home. So this is what I told my best friend: Please, as long as you are still living with your parents please save all the money you can. You don't know how wild it is out here.
And so the days go on and she tells me she is going on a asian buffet on a thursday. We have never said no to anything because we are young and life is one so we always permitted us gifts such as this. So, she is going to have dinner with a friend on a regular thursday. Nothing to celebrate, just pleasure. And I wonder about her economy. So I ask her: Are you saving as I suggested? Is it ok if I ask you how much savings have you got? And she replied with a dry: 20k
Now, I got a heartache because she had been saving all her life. I felt so slept on in life, as I am learing NOW about the importance of saving money and once I knew about I told her. But she never let me know she was saving. She didn't have to, of course, but why hide? I felt some kind of betrayed...
