Is Dandenong Station REALLY bad even when just stopping at the station?

I'm currently looking at going to IMAX Melbourne next month to see Superman. Since I'll be catching the train to and from Parliament Station (since that's the closest one to IMAX), I'll end up passing or stopping at Dandenong Station. I've been hearing a LOT of bad things about Dandenong itself, but more so with the station. For anyone that has passed or stopped at Dandenong Station in their travels, is it REALLY that bad? Has anyone had a bad experience from a Dandenong passenger? Is it only at night that it gets REALLY bad?
