Naming your Channel. Does it matter and can it be changed?

Does the name of the channel have an effect on the algorithm or anything else? I make history videos around the Mediterranean, but the channel is just my name (when I started this account many years ago, I didn't realize that this would be the focus at this point). If I change the name (does it change the @ address too?) Cheers fellow small creators!!
