How do summer associate programs work?

I'm a high school student, but I don't really know how college works and I'm trying to learn. I live near Dallas, but I'm planning to attend UT austin. I live near Kirkland and Ellis currently and want to do the summer associate program there when I'm in law school. However, I don't know if you have to attend school nearby the law firm or if they allow you to do a program anywhere. Sorry if this is a stupid question
