Emmy The Robot (Animated Series) Season Two Pitch
So if you don’t know, a while ago I made a hypothetical pitch for an Emmy The Robot animated series pitch. I drafted up a rough idea of what I think the main story would be for a first season and wrote up a synopsis for the season’s episodes.
Since then I’ve been thinking of what a potential season two could look like. That’s why I’m doing a season two pitch following off of the previous pitch season I wrote about.
Please note that if you haven’t read the first part, beware of spoilers here. Also a lot of this will be fan fiction based, so please don’t take this too seriously. I may actually turn this into a full fledged fanfic at some point in the future.
Now like before I’m breaking down the season in different plot lines for the characters. Plot A (Emmy), Plot B (The Delaires), Plot C (Marcus Webb & Ron Bennet) and a Plot D involving Amy, Polly and Franny.
Which in hindsight I should’ve thought of a subplot including Webb and Bennet before in my Season One pitch.
Oh well, on with the show!
Plot A (Emmy)
Time has passed since Emmy has stayed with Darcy Boyle and the other outmodes in DuPont. (Note: the first season takes place from September to early December. There would be a three month time jump leading into early next year).
At this point Emmy has fully adapted to her current home. As well as having developed close friendships with everybody there. Darcy and Emmy are also a lot closer together compared to how they first met.
Darcy has been trying her hardest to remove the “EOL Protocol” virus, but without an access code from a Sterling Robotics employee she can’t remove it without erasing all of Emmy’s memory files in the process like when she tried before.
Despite this Emmy is understanding about this, knowing how hard she’s trying to make things right since she previously used her.
Also Emmy and Darcy have the idea to rebrand their “Nandroids For Hire” business into “Outmodes For Hire”. Hiring outmode robots to help clean and do repairs around DuPont. This would be to both help the community and show how older robots can still be useful.
However, an unexpected new arrival in DuPont disrupts Emmy’s new found life: Molly.
In regards to how Molly ended up there, she was sent to Sterling HQ to get her “glitches” fixed. But due to a series of events that I’m not sure just yet, ends up in a disassembled state and dumped into DuPont.
Fortunately Emmy and Darcy find and repair her using different robot parts. Molly is obliviously horrified at becoming an outmode and openly expresses her disdain towards Emmy’s new friends.
Emmy tries to get Molly and everyone to get along while she stays at Aunt Ginny’s, but Molly’s attitude causes serious friction. Eventually Emmy has enough and stands up to Molly which results in them ending their “friendship” after Molly accidentally reveals that she was the one who suggested to Angela that Emmy needed to be sent away in the first place.
Molly does go through a character arc. With some help from others she learns how not to be so judgmental and how to let go of being a constant perfectionist. By the end of the season she becomes a more humbler and kinder person who deeply regrets her past actions.
Meanwhile the rest of the plot would follow Emmy and Darcy looking for clues about the virus and leads to a deeper conspiracy investigation. Leading them to learn the whole truth from an ex-Sterling employee in hiding.
It’s revealed that over twenty years ago, around the time John Sterling disappeared from the public eye a new unknown management took over the company. Under this new regime Sterling Robotics began uploading the End Of Lifetime Protocol virus into their robots every five years and releasing new ones to replace them to make more money.
Evidence of this is in top secret files locked up in Sterling HQ. Unfortunately the employee was caught breaking in and had to fake their death to avoid them coming after him.
Emmy and the gang (along with a redeemed Molly) formulate a plan to get to Beacon City and break into SR to steal the files. Emmy is hesitant to this not because of the heist but of returning to Beacon City where the Delaires are.
She’s come to really enjoy her new life with Darcy in DuPont, but deep down she still misses Madeline and is torn about returning to her old life again.
The group all travel to Beacon City ready to takedown SR together!
Plot B (The Delaires)
Since we last left the Delaires, they brought home “Emmy 2.0” or E2. However, Ted and Angela haven’t overloaded E2 with work and Madeline is more independent by now.
Emmy 2.0 believes she’s the real Emmy who after getting repaired was sent home. Madeline is thrilled that “Emmy” is back again and all seems to be well.
At least at first.
Although E2 technically has Emmy’s memories, not all of them are accountable for. Also she reacts differently to how Emmy does to something which causes suspicion from Madeline who doesn’t know that this isn’t Emmy.
There’s the emotion bracelet too, that Madeline wears so when she’s feeling distressed E2 will come and assist her. However the bracelet goes off whenever Madeline feels even slightly annoyed or uncomfortable causing E2 to come in at awkward or embarrassing moments. Which only causes Madeline to feel even more distress as a result.
Her parents notice this and end up getting rid of the bracelet. This does help but Ted and Angela generally miss having the original Emmy around.
The Delaires aren’t the ones feeling this. Corbin Mendenhall has been struggling without Molly at home and school. The new Nandroid his family got Mindy (OC) is a carbon copy of her, only more meaner, colder and stuck up then Molly was.
Madeline feeling sorry for Corbin helps him feel better during this period and teaches him how to act like a kid for once. This would lead them to later becoming friends.
She does discover that Emmy 2.0 is a fake and is incredibly upset at her parents for having lied and replaced Emmy like they did. E2 is also shocked about this, causing her to have an existential crisis.
Ted learns that Sterling Robotics is planning on releasing the 2.0 Nandroids at the upcoming 50th anniversary expo. He tries telling them it’s a bad idea with all the negative effects, but the execs are only interested in making money. And he can’t return E2 or sue them due to the NDA’s Ted previously signed. Fed up he quits working at SR.
Angela talks with Madeline about their situation. Madeline’s still upset but understands that she has to let go and accept that Emmy isn’t coming back.
Or is she?
Plot C (Marcus Webb & Ron Bennet)
This plot focuses on both Dr Marcus Webb and Dr Ron Bennet. Last time Marcus had tried and failed to stand up for Emmy to get repaired before she “disappeared”. He was also against the idea of the fake Emmy replacement but couldn’t bring himself to speak up about it.
He’s been working under Ron Bennet. Who knows some of the darker secrets behind Sterling Robotics including the Upper-Upper Management.
During this time more Nandroids over five years old start to come in with “glitches” similar to Emmy’s and they can’t find out what’s wrong with them. Marcus is suspicious and secretly does a little digging (which is around the same time Emmy and Darcy do their own investigation).
Bennet becomes aware of this and warns Marcus to drop it. Marcus however isn’t backing down this time. As he continues investigating there are people secretly spying on him and there’s even an attempt on his life that’s made to look like an accident.
Marcus later confronts Ron on this once he finds out he knows something's going on. He does confess that SR has been behind some shady activity and that if he tries to tell anyone they will “terminate him”.
Ron also admits that he used to be like Marcus years ago, wanting to actually help robot patients get better and cared deeply for them. But when Upper-Upper Management took over, he was forced under the new bureaucratic system. Becoming cynical and dismissive towards robots as a result years later.
Despite Ron telling him everything, Marcus is standing his ground and is going to put a stop to SR sabotaging their robots. Even if it means getting “terminated”.
Plot D (Amy, Polly & Franny)
The last plot follows the remaining Nandroids Amy, Polly and Franny as they’re faced with the fear of being replaced. They even start to have “glitches” themselves. Each one of them tries to prove that they’re still able to do their jobs, but their overall panicking causes them to make mistakes.
Their families' children, not wanting to lose them, try to help them out.
We’d get a perspective on how each family would handle the situation and how they view their Nandroids compared to others. Whether as family members or as servants.
That’s my season two pitch for Emmy The Robot (Animated Series). I hope you enjoyed reading this and let me know what you think!
