Singer mission of kill enemies beyond 40m using SMG: is it broken?

Doing level 9 Stinger mission, something like

Warfare: Kill X enemies using SMG beyond 40m

During matches, I used SMG45 to kill some enemies 45m away, but the kill counter didn't move.

Is the mission bugged? What am I missing here?
