This is making me mad
Stop saying that Shoko and Gojo were not close after Geto left. Seriously, y'all took one panel of Shoko lamenting the fact that Gojo still felt lonely despite her being there and just ran with it.
Gojo's entire thing was struggling with being lonely. It had NOTHING to do with him not having friends. He had friends! He was literally surrounded by people who he loved and people who loved him. HE EVEN SAYS SO HIMSELF!
He was lonely because he was cursed with being the strongest. And that was something he couldn't make anyone else understand. The moment he unlocked purple, and awakened his infinity after fighting Toji, he had become the singular strongest. He hadn't understood it yet, but this is when he became lonely. He started to go on missions alone, and more and more people started to rely on him. And this was even before Geto had left.
Geto's leaving had scarred him because he didn't see it coming, and he couldn't save his friend despite being the strongest. It took this moment, when Geto literally said the words that will TORMENT him for the rest of his life "Are you Satoru Gojo because you are the strongest, or are you the strongest because you are Satoru Gojo", for him to fully realise how lonely he really is and is going to be. Geto’s defection wasn’t the start of Gojo’s loneliness—it was the turning point where he realised it
Geto was important to Gojo. Geto's defection was literally a changing point in his life. His whole worldview shook, and Gojo finally understood what the limitations and burdens of his power entailed.
Shoko saying this was her was acknowledging that despite her presence, Gojo was still burdened by something none of them could fix. When Gojo tells her, “I won’t leave anyone alone,” she hears what he really means: “I feel alone.” No one could or would be able to truly help him with the burden he carried. Not even his closest friends. Not even Shoko. Probably not even Geto.
Want proof that Shoko and Gojo remained close?
- Shoko being one of the only ones Gojo trusted to know about Yuji's resurrection
- Gojo not letting her handle Geto's body (probably out of consideration to her, but mostly to Nanako and Mimiko, the 2 girls actually lost the body)
- Her starting to smoke again when Gojo is sealed, and stopping when he dies
- Her confidence in him during the fight
- Her worrying about him when things not looking too good
- Her understanding his technique the best cause she's seen it the longest
- Her being upset and resigned when she actually has to perform the switch
- Gojo being upset at ONLY her for not objecting to Yuta using his body (she had 100% confidence that he would win)
- Gojo leaving her to settle Yuji, Nobara, Megumi and the rest of JJK Tokyo
- Shoko probably handing Gojo and Geto's funeral at the end
Conversations they had that were implied but not seen;
- Gojo telling Shoko about killing Geto after JJK0
- Shoko telling Gojo about Yaga, Nanami, Tsumiki, Nobara after being unsealed
- Gojo telling Shoko about Geto/Kenjaku
- Gojo telling Shoko about the letters he wrote to the first years and when to give it to them
- Shoko telling Gojo about Yuta's switch plan even before Yuta asked Gojo
The rest of the students will hurt that Gojo is gone but the one who will probably feel his absence the most is Shoko.
