Husband with anger issues
How you deal on being in a relationship with a man with anger issues?
I understand that anger is normalized for men, so often they're being enabled to have anger issues and are also taught that sadness is "emasculating", and the way they find it to express their emotions are usually with anger.
I (25F) lived in a household where both my father and my brother had a lot of anger issues and hatred towards women, in one of the family discussion my father broke his feet kicking the wall and my brother had to drive him to the hospital. Me and my Mother were always treated as inferior and I understand now as an adult how much anger I as a female, surpressed towards the male figure.
Now I'm married, my husband is super sweet with me and he is very proud of women since his mother raised him alone, he's always my bigger cheerleader and supports a lot of feminist ideas. But when we go out with friends, when there's other males that he feels some resentment toward, I recognize a lot of unresolved anger issues towards the male figure, he closes up, becomes arrogant and it seems to me he's trying to "control" or "compete" with the other males.
So it's this duality for me and I just recognized it recently, I feel a little ashamed when I see him behaving this way with others and get frustrated when we go out with friends. He started going to therapy this year and has been working on it, I also communicate a lot with him when I see the patterns, but I don't want to "fix him"
I'm curious, do any of you deal with this with your partners? How was the "recovery process" for this? Thank you :)
