Need some help understanding the blood test
Patient: 19F
She had low energy, cold hands and feet. So we decided to check her iron levels. We live in a country where iron deficiency isn't treated seriously (clinics have widened ranges for what's considered normal, doctors are dismissive, etc). So we want to interpret the results and decide if she needs iron supplements.
The results:
Transferrin
Concentration: 2.92 g/l (reference 2.00 - 3.60)
Transferrin iron saturation coefficient: 43.1% (reference 20.0 - 50.0)
Serum Iron
Concentration: 31.59 μmol/L (reference 6.60 - 26.00)
Ferritin
Concentration: 20.4 µg/L (reference 10.0 - 120.0)
So while her ferritin is within the normal range we read that it's still a very low value and can lead to her constantly feeling tired. If someone here can help us interpret the results and suggest a course of action, please do.
