Building a Gaming&AI PC – Need Advice on PC Specs
Hey everyone,
I’m planning to build a sim racing rig, and I’d love your advice. The only component I already own is the monitor — a 49” ultrawide (5120x1440) — and that’s not something I can change.
Since I’m buying a new PC anyway, I’d like it to double as a general gaming machine (Anno, Frostpunk, Hearts of Iron, etc.) and be capable of running AI workloads (LLMs, Stable Diffusion, etc.).
Here’s the current build I’m considering:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D — same cache as the 9800X3D but significantly cheaper. I’m not considering Ryzen 9 CPUs due to the price.
- GPU: RTX 5070 Ti — not sure if this will be enough for my needs, or if I should step up to a 5080. I’m avoiding AMD GPUs because of weaker AI support.
- RAM: 2×32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 — thinking about going straight to 2×48GB to be more future-proof. Would that be overkill?
Other components (PSU, SSDs, etc.) aren’t a big concern at this point.
My Key Questions:
- Will this build be enough to run iRacing (and other game) smoothly at high/ultra setting 5120x1440?
- Would upgrading to a 5080 offer a noticeable improvement for this resolution and AI tasks?
- Is 64GB RAM enough, or should I go straight to 96GB?
