AIO for not wanting my MIL to “practice swaddling” on my dog?
I’m 6 months pregnant with our first baby. My MIL is extremely excited to be a grandma. This is her first grandchild, and she’s been a little... extra. She constantly sends me parenting TikToks, comments on every baby item we buy, and even made a countdown calendar labeled “Until I Hold My Grandbaby.”
That was annoying but manageable, until last weekend. She came over for dinner and brought a doll-sized swaddle blanket and asked if she could “practice” wrapping something since she’s “a little rusty.”
Before I could even process what she meant, she picked up our 4-year-old golden retriever and tried to swaddle him like an infant. He squirmed away, clearly not into it, and I told her to stop.
She got huffy and said she “needs to practice now so she’s ready when baby comes.” I said, “You won’t need to do that, we’re not handing the baby off like that anyway.”
Now she’s sulking and told my husband I “humiliated her” and made her feel like she’s not going to be trusted. My husband thinks she’s being silly, but her sister called me “cruel.”
AIO for thinking this was weird and not letting her use our dog as a baby stand-in?
