Is doing a foundation year abroad a real path to veterinary school if I scored low in HSC Boards?"

Advice

Hi, I’m an 18M from Mumbai, India. Becoming a veterinarian — especially working with wild animals or in zoological fields — has always been my dream.

I was an above-average student (80% in 10th), but I didn’t perform well in HSC. I scored 57% overall, with particularly low marks in PCB. I passed, but the scores are far below the average needed for veterinary colleges in India, which has limited my options here.

I’m now seriously considering a foundation year abroad (specifically in the EU) to pursue veterinary medicine. I want a fresh start in an environment with better academic support, opportunities, and a strong English-speaking community.

I have full family support and funding isn't a major concern — but I want to make sure I choose a secure and realistic path, not just chase a fantasy.

I’d appreciate advice on:

Are there legit foundation programs abroad that help low-score students enter vet school?

Which countries/universities are most practical to aim for in this situation?

Should I wait, improve my marks, and try again later?

What are the risks of going abroad with this academic background?

Has anyone here followed a non-traditional route into veterinary medicine successfully?

I’m ready to work hard and stay committed — I just want to know that the path I take will actually lead somewhere meaningful.

Thanks so much in advance for any help or experiences you can share.
