Digital Guard Dawg Bypass Mode
Just figured I'd pass this one along in case it can help anyone.
So lately I noticed my DGD was acting 'strange'. When I say 'strange', I mean that I noticed that I didn't need to use the key fob to start the bike. Just flicking the run/stop switch would make the bike instantly start up.
I initially thought that maybe my key fob was in automatic mode. I went through the motions to change it into manual mode, but I could still start the bike without pressing the button or even having the FOB next to the bike. My first thought was that the relay in the DGD failed in the closed position, but I called DGD support just in case.
Well it wasn't a bad relay; it's an undocumented feature of the DGD. If it IS documented, it most definitely wasn't in the documentation that came with my unit!
The manual outlines how to enable bypass mode in case you lose the paired fob, but one thing I don't recall ever seeing in any of the documentation is that there's an AUTOMATIC bypass mode that can get triggered.
If the batteries in your remote are running low, the DGD will detect it and put itself into bypass mode so you won't get left stranded. Normally you'll know the batteries are running low by the blinking light on the fob, but what isn't apparent is that the bypass mode will get triggered if the batteries are running low on ANY paired fobs. If the DGD can see the fob and the battery state was low on it when it saw it, it turns on bypass mode.
The crazy thing is that pulling the bike's battery WILL NOT CLEAR IT! I disconnected my battery and let it sit for 10 minutes at one point too.
In my case it was the batteries in my spare fob that were running low and it was just close enough for the DGD to see it.
To turn off this bypass mode, change the batteries in any fobs that are paired with the system (that are running low) and press the button on it next to the bike. Everything will return to normal after that.
Yes I know how simple this sounds. Up until now I had no idea that feature existed in the DGD though.
