Advice on eyeliner?

Looking for recommendations on eyeliner products. I bought a covergirl perfect point plus eye pencil today, and I either don’t have the experience or it just isn’t the right eyeliner. Likely the latter since I chose it at random without consulting anyone and it isn’t a very fine tip. I looked at some tutorials and i’m leaning towards liquid pens since they seem easier to apply. The pen I got today, I really needed to draw to apply color and it didn’t feel like it was working. This is also my first time applying makeup so my eyelids were super twitchy and I was making a complete mess of it. So any recommendations on beginner products or just any tips on how to get started would be greatly appreciated.
