Is the prominence of telugu dying? Is urdu replacing telugu in Rural TS?

I was talking to my tamil friend about the kamal and kannada fiasco and when I told him telugus probably wouldn't care as much cuz we are confident that the language is far from dying he objected stating urdu was replacing telugu in Rural TS and the prominence is slowly dying kind of puzzled me, is it true? Cuz last I checked we are still the 3rd or 4th most spoken language in the country
