Symphony Orchestra (MUSIC 342A) Auditions?

Is anyone familiar with the process of auditioning for/participating in Symphony Orchestra? How competitive is it to get in as a violin player?

I was going to take University Orchestra, but it conflicts with another class that I want to take.
