May pa-foreigner? May pa-package? May pa-bayad via GCASH? Scam alert!
I know this might sound far-fetched, but it’s real, and I’m posting this to raise awareness about a scam that has been affecting a lot of people in the Philippines, especially single moms/dads or adults over 35 or others who might be vulnerable or lonely.
Here's how it goes:
-
The scammer adds you on Facebook. Usually, the profile looks legit and professional — claiming to be a doctor, architect, contractor, or engineer based in the UK or US. Their profile has polished photos and posts to appear trustworthy.
-
They start private messaging you. At first, it seems harmless — they’re charming, say sweet things, and may even talk about wanting to settle down or visit you in the Philippines. It sounds too good to be true… because it is.
-
The “package” story begins. They’ll say they are sending you a package filled with expensive gifts: iPhones, watches, perfumes, cash, or important documents, as a sign of their love or their plan to visit or move here.
-
Then the fake customs call/text happens. You'll get a message (often via SMS, Viber, or Messenger) claiming the package is stuck in customs and you need to pay a "clearance fee" — usually via GCash or other local payment apps.
-
You send money — and they disappear. Once you pay, either the story escalates (more fees, delays) or they vanish altogether. You never see a package or your money again.
Please warn your moms, titas, single friends, and neighbors about this. It’s heartbreaking to see good people scammed out of ₱10,000–₱50,000+ over false hopes and fake love.
