genital herpes symptoms with negative PCR (positive for yeast infection)
wondering if anyone has had experience with a false negative PCR and/or genital herpes symptoms caused by a yeast infection? i started having a slight pain/discomfort/itching sensation around my urethra last week on thursday, went to urgent care on saturday. urine sample was normal, got swabbed for chlamydia/gonorrhea/trich/BV/yeast, then the doctor noticed two ulcers on the inner labia that she suspected were herpes and took a swab of the fluid for PCR. also got a blood test and was prescribed valacyclovir. since my visit my symptoms got much worse and i had more ulcers/sores appear that are now in the process of healing. today the results came back negative for HSV1 and 2 on both the PCR and blood test. the only thing that i was positive was a yeast infection (candida glabrata). i’m getting medication for the yeast infection but im worried about a false negative because i was so convinced i had herpes. i didn’t have a known exposure - had unprotected sex with someone 4-5 days before symptoms but im pretty confident that he didn’t have an outbreak and very unlikely he has herpes.
