Fiver Friday: Promiscuity Edition
Call and response. As a child raised by religious wackos, I guess that's one positive thing, that I was exposed to the practice in a religious setting in my youth. Of course they didn't call it that, they called it responsive reading. While not every church we went to did this, the ones that did kind of capture my attention a little bit better. Something about the interactive nature of it all. Just made it feel more alive maybe. I don't know. I just know I remember thinking it was one of the coolest things I had ever seen the first time I encountered it. And of course, it's been a facet of performance art since well before I was born. Vaudeville acts used it. It has been a staple of music, for years actually, with its own name, antiphony. And there are tons of examples of it throughout the different genres. Ray Charles in "What’d I Say" may be the first song I heard it in. “Exile” by Bon Iver and Taylor Swift may be my most modern favorite version, as it is applicable to a recent situation in my world. but today's song kind of fit the vibe I was looking for a best. It's funny how the universe works. Last week I had a Bryan Adams song featured, and then this week I've actually heard two Brian Adams songs in the wild, which I can't remember the last time I had even heard one not intentionally. I don't know if this is just my brain picking up on something that it would have otherwise ignored because of last week's post, or if there is like this weird, interesting synergy to the world around us sometimes, and our actions dictate equivalent responses. But whatever the source of this magic, I heard this song earlier this week, and if a song can be shot, it’s one of the sexiest ones I think I’ve ever heard. This is music you could f to. I mean younger me probably. Currently I’m probably more of an “Air Supply’s hit I’m All Out of Love but removing all rhythm and ending abruptly with no warning” kind of motherfucker.
But back to Promiscuous. The subject matter, well it really fits the majority of us here on this side of Reddit. I mean I was always taught that promiscuity was bad and disgusting, but it has become such a core value of who I am now. Like what could possibly be more awesome than being able to converse with multiple beautiful naked women on an equal level with mutual interest in the conversation? Especially with many of you who are, using well accepted technical measurements, are well outside of my pay grade. But to be able to comment, and to have someone respond favorably to my dirty pervy engagement efforts, well that’s just everything to me. And I never really put two and two together like this, but I think that feeling of excitement I got back when I was a kid at the call and response church is being brought forth into a completely inappropriate manner here. Honestly, I never realized that was the basis of why I require this in my life still. I love it. I truly do. For me it is everything. Now don't get me wrong, I love looking at a naked body regardless of context, but that is not my true love. I crave interaction. Connection. A bond with another, however fleeting or implausible it may be in the reality we all live in.
Sometimes I get into different modes of being here on Reddit, sometimes I'm in an exploration mode where I'm looking for new people to engage with, other times. I'm assessing the relationship and figuring out if it's worth continuing. Lately I've been in an exploratory mode, and I have to say that it never ceases to amaze me how many beautiful, wonderful, sexual, interesting, engaging women choose to share themselves here on this site. And how much I appreciate it. And I love giving good compliments. I never knew I was good at that, but it has been one of my favorite developments in my later life, knowing that I don't suck at telling beautiful women that they're beautiful in a way that they actually receive it. And I think that’s why it's so important for me to engage and get that response. And I say that not as someone who feels entitled to it or someone feels owed, but I say that as it is my reason for being here. So, when I don't get one back, I'm not offended or bothered or upset or anything like that, it's just why I'm here so without it, there just isn't any remaining appeal for me.
And to be a bit blunt here, I feel that way about almost anybody that for one reason or another limits their interaction parameters.
Again, not that they don't have a right to and I think it's honestly pretty healthy sometimes when someone expresses exactly what they're looking for in this space in hopes of finding it. But “I only chat on onlyfans” or “don't shoot your shot” or “only responding to tall Puerto Rican professional dancers with at least 8” and a visible six pack” or anything like that is typically a clear sign for me to not bother commenting. Again, I understand why they're necessary and fully support a person being clear in what they’re looking for from this hobby, but for me it 100% completely eliminates any interest on my part. We’re all here for ourselves after all, and not everyone will fit our wish lists, so it’s better to spend time with those we connect with than to try and convince those that we don’t that we should. Which brings me back to the privilege that we have here of our shared promiscuity. It really is an amazing thing that we can run the gamut of virtual one-night stands, friends with benefits or periodic f buddies, legitimate long distance poly relationships, and even on occasion true love. With all of the shit that interconnectedness of social media and the internet have brought us, to me, this is a positive. To me, this is everything. Now let's get naked and sweaty and on top of each other.... Nelly Furtado: Promiscuous (ft. Timbaland)
