Beginners Question - Outpost

Hello everyone,

I got myself the game this week and I am absolutely hooked.

I planted my first settlement basically on the first spot I liked with little idea what to expect from the game. I was luckily close to a lot of stuff I need and reasonable close to the starting village and the one to the west.

Ore wise I want to get it going and wonder now:

What distance is something they still manage to get back and forth during one working day and produce reasonable?

And if I go for an outpost, should I have a village hall before that? I've found here Signpost mentioned a lot and I can already research it. I know the stockpile obv. But is there anything tear 2 I'd need?
