Gave Cultural Shock to the Room Mate !!

So few days ago I visited my friend in Marathahalli and he have room mate who's from Delhi.

And we happened to order Mani's Dum Biriyani and started to eat it from same plate. The Delhi guy who saw us eating from same plate so show shocked he took my friend alone and asking how do you guys comfortably share your plate 🍽️ !!

Even we're shocked to find out this is not normal in few parts of India!!

Just curious to know if it's actually normal or the Delhi guy over reacted.
