Gotta say the 55U8K has the most wonderful screen but the SMART part is CRAP
So when I bought this TV in January of 2024, I immediately fell in love with the gorgeous and nearly blinding display. After 2 weeks I was hating the Android smart TV portion it was sluggish and glitchy, so I bought a Roku for it and stopped using the TV Smart features. About 6 months ago I gave them a try again and it seemed to be working fine so I ditched the Roku and went back to using the TV's updated smart features.
The last 2 firmware updates have turned it into an unstable pile of crap. Part of it is clearly the fault of apps that never shut down on their own. When I got back to the home screen the apps should CLOSE/END but they dont. So when I go back to them they are right where they were, like the YouTube app. Then if I turn off the TV (which it doesn't really ever turn off, just sleeps) and come back the YT app will be hung, with no thumbnails and no way to reactivate it even if you kill it in apps. Only a reboot works.
A TV should not be this complicated. It shouldnt have a brain built from the minimum hardware one can get to work and then upgraded over and over until its so sluggish and broken your only choice is to replace it of the functionality that was part of what you paid for. I've worked in IT for more than 30 years. and this had got to be the most dysfunctional thing I have ever had the experience of dealing with.
