I don’t think I’m the man everyone thinks I am
People around me always tell me how “put together” I seem. I’ve got a decent job, I pay my bills, I show up when I’m supposed to, and I can hold a decent conversation. They think I’m calm, reliable, even strong.
But the truth is I’m exhausted. And I feel like a fraud.
Behind closed doors, I barely hold myself up. I struggle to find meaning in most of what I do. I’m constantly overthinking everything. I lie awake at night staring at the ceiling, wondering if this is really it. I smile and joke with my friends, but half the time I feel like I’m watching myself from the outside.
I don’t have some big traumatic story or dramatic turning point. I just feel empty. Like I’m going through the motions. I want to scream sometimes, just to see if anyone would notice something’s off.
It’s weird because I know how to help other people. I’ve been the one who talks friends down, who listens, who shows up. But when it comes to myself, I’ve got nothing.
I guess I’m just tired of pretending I’ve got it all figured out. I needed to say it somewhere. Maybe this helps. Maybe it doesn’t.
Thanks if you made it this far.
