Role Elimination and severance

Compensation

My role is being eliminated 6/30 as part of head count trimming for this lovely economy. I’ve been with this Fortune 100 company for 19 years. My 45 if it matters and I live in New York State, USA.

my initial thought is the severance likely is non negotiable as I’m not an officer or csuite. Honestly it’s pretty generous and I really am only interested in potentially negotiating longer healthcare coverage.

  1. Is this something I likely can negotiate?
  2. Is it worth a consult with an attorney?

I honestly expected to retire from this company so I’m more unprepared than I’d like to admit. I’ll be ok financially but cobra ($1581/ month) will kill my severance if it takes a bit to find a new role.
