Partner experiencing erotic transference.
My partner and I usually talk about our therapy sessions with one another, and one day they let it slip that they had erotic transference for their therapist. We have major intimacy issues at home, so asking him, bottom line, if he is sexually attracted to their therapist was extremely hurtful for me.
I asked my partner to stop seeing this therapist (whom they've only been seeing for less than half a year) but said I would be okay if they needed to take a few more sessions for closure. I was told that I was being ridiculous and that this was absurd. (And to clarify, I am totally okay with saying that someone is attractive, but I think when there is an added one-sided emotional intimacy, that is when I become uncomfortable.) What also makes me uncomfortable is that their therapist is only pre-licensed and very young.
They assured me that they would stop seeing this therapist very abruptly, but when I got home from a solo trip, I found out that my partner had gone behind my back and had seen this therapist anyway for a discharge session. They were agitated when I got upset about not knowing about the appointment, so I dropped it. I recommended some on Psychology Today, and so did our couple's therapist, but his former therapist recommended one, and my partner then ONLY wanted to see the one his previous therapist recommended. I then found out that this new therapist is just as young and inexperienced, and even works at the same practice as the previous therapist. I asked him to see someone else before his first session to not waste either of their time, and my partner, for the first time in 5+ years, yelled at me. I'm not asking for my partner to stop therapy altogether; I would just feel more comfortable with them going to someone with more experience under their belt, especially if something were to happen again. My partner does not care what I think and started seeing this therapist anyway. I am incredibly ill about the whole thing and don't know what to do. Our couple's therapist keeps saying that transference is "normal," which I can see from other posts, but for me, in this relationship, with the problems we face, I am not okay with it.
