What if you already shifted and the "you" reading this post is the version that stayed behind?

So shifters say that when you shift, a "copy" or clone of you stays in your current reality while you are in your desired reality. This has the purpose of you continuing to exist in the CR instead of simply vanishing, since it's only your consciousness that moves to the DR, right? Did I get something wrong?

So how do you know you're not the version of yourself that stayed behind while the rest of your consciousness shifted somewhere else? Or is the clone perfectly aware that you shifted and agreed to stay in the CR? Wouldn't that be unfair to the clone if it's "you" in every way, continuing to living your life normally?

This part of shifting has me really confused.
