Got into UCSB on appeal
My daughter is a transfer student from a ccc and got rejected everywhere because of a data entry error for one of her English classes on her application. Big oops, doh! She was absolutely devastated 8 weeks ago. I was so worried, she was crashing hard.
Just now, she just came into the kitchen bawling her eyes out. I thought something terrible happened. Once she could speak I cried with her. She said "all I saw was confetti".
We went down so many rabbit holes trying to see what her chances were on appeal. UCSB doesn't publish the stats on that so we were going off of stats for other UC's which were not encouraging. We were hoping for the best but expecting the worst. I just wanted to put this out there for anyone else searching for answers. Miracles do happen.
She is a 3.5 average, communications major. Her counselors were horrible and she got bad advice and we found out in her 3rd semester that she was 10 units short of the 60 she needed. She thugged out a 23 unit semester this Spring. She had a strong appeal with her 23 unit semester (with a 3.7 GPA) and that gave her a strong case for being a great student to admit.
We submitted the appeal as soon as grades came out (May 29th) and got the confetti today (June 13th). I think this supports the theory that the longer it takes to hear, the smaller the chances are for good news.
She also called UCSB admissions and dealt with people there that helped her through the appeal process, which was so nice of them.
Big mama hugs to everyone out there fighting their own admissions battles. Keep hope and don't give up!
