Distance wedge control/speed/tempo

I’d like to work on my 40-100 yard game. I’m using Dan Grieve’s system, similar to clock, but I’m realizing that the most important thing to make that work is a consistent tempo.

Everyone says deliver the wedge with the same speed but I think they mean tempo as a shorter swing with the same speed at impact would go the same distance as a longer swing delivered at the same speed.

So first, is my assumption correct or am I missing something?

As an aside, I like Grieve’s system more than the clock as it automatically regulates backswing length.

Second, what’s the ideal tempo? I have an old blast sensor and realized my tempo goes from 2.2-2.7 for these shots. It seems like this is fine as long as it’s consistent.
