[Meta] An update to the sidebar and rules!

Hey folks,

So a few changes to our sidebar. We've tried to keep it concise, and as all-encompassing as possible. We’ve updated the description to clarify and focus our goals as a subreddit -- namely, to foster a sense of community among Asian Pacific Americans. As always, folks outside the US are welcome to participate, and we’re using APA as a broad, catch-all term.

We’ve also clarified and added a couple new rules. In a nutshell -- be mindful of reddiquette; stay on topic; no troll/bots/spam; no bigotry of any kind; and speak for yourself, not others.

What’s that last rule mean? We’ve noticed that some users will try to prescribe the thoughts and behavior of others in this subreddit, particularly when the discussion is about women and their choices.

Ultimately, a person’s choices are their own to make, and must be respected. Share your own personal experience freely, but do not speak for others and presume to know why they’ve made the choices they have, or how they should act in any given situation. You may still express your opinions freely and provide critique when it’s requested of you, but otherwise, refrain from criticizing others’ choices. To clarify, we're not saying you can't make judgments of others. Rather, we all have different experiences of being Asian American, and our discussions should remain respectful of those differences.

That’s all for now. If quadshock or chinglishese want to add anything else they can, and there will be additional updates to the sidebar in the future -- mostly general info and resources, with additional rules being added only as necessary. Thanks yall, and we’re super excited to see r/asianamerican continue to grow into a bigger and better community for all of us!
