What to do during a delayed PhD?

Social Science

Hi all! After a few years of thinking and deciding, I had come to the conclusion that I was ready to pursue a PhD. Then, of course, waves hands all around The program I was planning on attending is delaying admissions until AT LEAST 2027- but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just “indefinitely” for now.

Obviously bummed, and I am personally locked into this program (work will cover my PhD at this particular school). So unless I change jobs and have a different education benefit, it seems like I’m holding out until at least 2027.

I was wondering if there are recommendations on what I can be doing now to help me out later. I was specifically interested in researching the intersection of college students and their involvement in war/politics (think Kent State, Columbia currently, etc etc etc).

Any recommendations on what I can be doing now that may benefit me down the road? I would also love any general advice now that I have at least two more years to prepare. Thank you :)
