Cleaning tips

Hey everyone, I recently got a really old Gary fisher and I want to repaint and clean everything. What should I use to clean the cassette and derailleurs? Would some isopropyl alcohol work or should I use something different. Preferably something i can just let soak for a while. Thanks!
