bf and I just broke up over politics. help

to keep it short, me and my 2 year long boyfriend fall on different political sides. majorly. today he texted me there were protesters at his work and blah blah blah one thing lead to another and we got in a heated political fight. we’re both 17 and can’t vote i should add. he was being insanely disrespectful however and was saying “you don’t know sjit” “you’re brainwashed” and eventually said “fuck you don’t ever talk to me again”. i said “we’re done, goodbye” and he blocked me. it’s not the politics that divided us but his disrespect. did i overstep or something. it’s been 2 years and a month, our whole relationship over in about 6 minutes. i need advice.
