Am I overreacting by being upset that my husband and I are on the verge of divorce and two days into talking he chose beer over me?
My (40f) and my husband (43m) have been married eight years next month, together for 10 and known each other for 20. We have been fighting so much more and harder the last year and I even told him 6 months ago he needs therapy to fix his shit. I have him a time line of after 3 months there needs to be at least efforts of improving, 6 months he needs to show me it’s sticking because he has done therapy 3 times before and it’s usually at the six month mark he reverts back to his old ways. If nothing has improved after a year of starting therapy I’m out.
90% of our fights happen because one or both people are drinking. I have had several times of no alcohol at all from 10 months to a year several times and now only drink wine because I don’t get drunk off of it because I drink it too slowly. He will easily go through a 30 pack every weekend if not more.
Last weekend he came home drunk and started a ridiculous fight and called me every name in the book for days on end (which is pretty common but this was the worst I’ve seen yet)
We started to have a someone what calm conversation two days ago and a better one yesterday. I told him he’s got to chill on the booze cause it’s over kill and unnecessary and only leads to bad things.
Today he went to hang out with a friend at a bar that was already planned. He drank ( wasn’t expecting anything less and told him we just can’t have a conversation today because he’s been drinking)
The problem is he came home and said he is gonna keep drinking today and we can talk tomorrow. The more I thought about it the more it pissed me off. Not only could he have chosen to still meet his friend and just not drink, but he chose to keep drinking when he got home not even 24 hours after our conversation. I told him I was going for a drive and am sitting in a parking lot across the street because I can’t help but think drinking beer is more important than I am. I have given this man everything and while I have made a million sacrifices, he couldn’t even continue having little conversations every day like he said to get back on track. And especially drinking more when he got home. That’s what threw me over. We’ve already agreed not to talk about serious shit when he’s been drinking and he won’t stop bugging me as to why I went for a drive no matter how many times I remind him we agreed not to talk about things when he’s been drinking. He says tomorrow he will be sober and he’s all mine. Thanks, glad you can put our marriage first tomorrow. Am I overreacting?
