Advice needed about ESA to SD
Would it be a horrible idea to label my dog as a service dog in training and take him out to train in a state that allows SDiT to have public access if properly labeled? I’ve been thinking about buying a vest for my dog and training him to be a service dog. Yes, I have a disability, and I can think of some tasks he could be trained for that would help. I’ve had him for almost 2 years, and he lived with me on campus for my last semester of college as an ESA. My dog is a very confident, smart dog that I’ve been training to be a well-behaved dog since I got him. He has some things to work on still, and I did have to work with a trainer on him jumping on people. The trainer I worked with also trains service dogs, and they said that my dog has the perfect temperament to be a service dog. I’ve been doing what is essentially PA training in pet friendly stores since the fall and have been occasionally asked if he’s working. But there’s only so many pet friendly stores in my area. Honestly, I think a lot of the problem is having imposter syndrome. I want to train my dog as a service dog, but I don’t want to cause problems for anyone else. I don't know if any of this even makes sense but, any advice?
