Unintentional Recurring Experiences
So I have two recurring experiences of what I believe to be reality shifting / slipping or shifts in consciousness. I’ll be honest I’m not totally sure what it is, as I’ve never really looked into reality shifting. I’m going to share the one that I believe is more aligned with reality shifting, and less about consciousness.
Somewhat interested in learning more, but I also think not understanding what it is, is what allows it to happen so organically and freely. I’ve definitely had other one-off experiences but the two I mentioned are recurring.
Experience #1: Shifting / Slipping During Flow State
This one occurs occasionally when I’m cooking, and almost every time I’m cooking after taking a low-dose edible, around 5-10mg.
I’m very into cooking and find it relaxing and grounding. When I get into a flow state, I’ll suddenly become conscious of watching myself. Not in a narrator or out-of-body way, but like my consciousness is tapping through versions of myself in alternate realities. Same moment, same action, but different versions of me in different settings. Like one second I’m in my kitchen here in NYC, and the next I’m doing the exact same thing in an apartment in Tokyo, or it’s my apartment but something about the setting or layout is different from my actual apartment. The glimpses of realities I get are endless, these are just a few examples that stick out.
And the weirdest part is: Sometimes the person I’m watching doesn’t even look like me. In fact, a lot of the time they look nothing like me. But I know it’s me. My intuition and consciousness recognizes itself.
It’s not dissociation. It’s not imagination. It feels like my consciousness slips through different layers of time and reality.
But the moment I become aware of it, I snap back into the present. Almost like I’m surfing realities until my brain “remembers” which one it’s committed to.
To summarize: I think I’m experiencing stacked reality / stacked time? I believe that time isn’t linear. That we’re always experiencing all time, all the time. Like time is vertical, not horizontal. But our consciousness only focuses on one specific moment, frame by frame. Maybe it’s biological. Or maybe it’s a subconscious choice — like something deep in us wants to experience life in a linear way.
Anyway that’s recurring experience #1.
Now for context of how I normally process and perceive and why I wouldn’t call this experience disassociation (unless I’ve just been walking around in a disassociated state my entire life lol). It actually connects heavily with my other recurring experience.
I’m generally experiencing 3 levels of consciousness and then only when I’m in extreme distress, extreme joy, or a flow state do I experience a 4th.
-
Physical me — The one who is actually experiencing and perceiving
-
Internal narrator — Interprets what’s happening, why I’m feeling what I’m feeling, and tries to make sense of myself and others
-
The narrator’s narrator — Observes, evaluates and judges the thoughts and conclusions of the internal narrator. Doesn’t give answers or explanations but communicates to the narrator to keep thinking about something
-
The watcher — Observes all three levels below. They kinda sit in the 4th wall. Perhaps a bit of a dissociated state. Only experience this when I’m in a flow state, experiencing extreme joy, or experiencing extreme distress. I don’t quite have the language for this so bear with me. But sometimes, it is just dissociation and the bottom 3 levels aren’t there, I’m just watching myself. But other times, it’s physical me perceiving and experiencing and also watching myself experience and perceive, simultaneously. Like my brain or consciousness is split. There’s no thought, judgement, or narration. Just doing and watching, at the same time. And in this specific state is when I’m experiencing the reality shifts/ slipping.
Let me know what you think or if you think this belongs in a different subreddit. And let me know if I should post the second experience, tho the explanation above sort of hits on it. And the more I think of the second experience, I think it has more to do with shifting consciousness so let me know if a good subreddit for that.
