There should be a point of being overweight that you no longer qualify for any government aid.
I’ll start off with pointing out I myself am morbidly obese, and have been most of my life, though I am currently working with a dietitian and personal trainer and getting pretty good results. I have never once been on any sort of government aid, as I’ve always been active enough that at my heaviest, I was still able bodied.
Here’s my issue, however.
I have seen and met multiple people whose sole income is government aid, be it welfare, food stamps, etc…
None of which they would actually need or likely even qualify for if they didn’t weight 400+ pounds, and simply couldn’t do basic tasks, like walking.
Now I understand life happens. Stress, eating disorders, etc… but even a glandular problem would NOT cause people to be as big as they are.
The problem I have is there are so many people that only qualify because they’re lazy, and this actually makes their condition worse, because they’re being rewarded for being a burden on society.
What makes this more frustrating to me is there’s people that openly brag about it online.
Such as Steven Assanti, who had a blog well before the show he’s famous for appearing on, in which he made multiple videos mocking tax payers for paying for his government assistance, which he used almost exclusively on fast food.
So in summary, I’m aware there are those who genuinely need help, but in this day and age, given the resources available to people, there is no excuse for someone to get so heavy that they become immobile, and need other people to take care of them.
And if you’re receiving benefits, and you reach this limit, they should either be severely limited forcing you to cut back on food expenses, or simply cut off entirely, as you are clearly abusing them.
