Killing mass amounts of weeds

So my husband and I are looking at our first home. It has several acres of property that are all overgrown with weeds. I need to clear out the front and backyard areas(about .20 acres) for my dogs, and some of the back pasture(.5 acres?) for my horse. Need something to get rid of weeds quickly(cardboard/plastic overlay not an option). We’ve heard burning is best, but some of my research suggests otherwise? We hope to plant grass in the front/backyard areas at some point. Any ideas? Or is burning really the best bet? Tips for that if so?
