Give lawyer a chance to fix their mistake or interact through another lawyer?

QLD

A lawyer made a mistake that will cost me money (I think). Should I go to them first and ask them to rectify or just engage another lawyer to handle the interaction?

Assume I’m not flush with cash when considering your response.

Details are a bit boring - I paid the lawyer to establish a discretionary trust. They made errors in their filings with ASIC which meant my shares in the business are still in my name. I’m about to sell and make a capital gain and don’t think I’ll be able to utilise my wife’s tax free threshold/ lower tax brackets as a result.

I reckon there is some blame to be shared. The Company Secretary that receives communications from ASIC should have also picked up on this.
