Why doesn't the US and the People's Republic of China just merge into one big country?

I feel like there would be so many advantages: a bigger economy, it would officially be the largest country on earth, and it would eliminate the headache of making a trade bloc. Idk, it just seems like everyone would benefit, why haven't they done this?
