iPad recommendations

I’m currently looking to buy a iPad. I already currently have a MacBook Air m2. I’m planning to go to mechanical engineering next fall. I heard MacBooks are awful for engineering because they aren’t compatible with some software. So I’m aware I might need to buy a new windows laptop. However I will wait and play it by ear and see how bad I need one. As for a iPad, I want one just to take notes on. What iPad do u recommend? I dislike that the iPad 10th gen is only compatible with the Apple Pencil usb c so I would need to plug my pencil in, however it might be okay considering I would save 500$. I found the iPad Air with Apple Pencil pro to be 1020$ CAD with taxes and the iPad 10 gen and Apple Pencil usb c to be 620 CAD
